... Cold temperatures to continue through Friday with snow returning
north of I-20 Thursday night and Friday morning...
As a strong upper level storm exits the area tonight snow...
melting snow... and ice will be left in its wake. Tonight/S low
temperatures in the upper 20s and lower 30s will either prolong
snow on the ground or serve to re-freeze snow/ice melt on
roadways. Bridges and overpasses will be especially vulnerable and
caution will be needed while driving tonight and Wednesday
morning. Even though the upper low is exiting tonight there will
still be an opportunity for snow on the backside of the low.
Accumulations of 1/2 to 1 inch will be possible between 6 PM and
midnight tonight mainly north of I-20.
The weather pattern remains favorable for cold conditions Thursday
and Friday and Arctic air is expected to surge south across the
plains of West Texas and southeast New Mexico early Thursday and
hold through Friday. High temperatures north of I-20 are not
expected to rise above 35 degrees Thursday and Friday. South of
I-20 high temperatures will generally be in the mid 30s to near
40... except along the Rio Grande where high temperatures will be
from the mid 40s to near 60.
As a well developed upper level disturbance approaches Thursday
night... snow is forecast to develop across the southeast New
Mexico plains and the Permian Basin mainly north of I-20. The
opportunity for snow will continue through Friday morning. Snow
totals near 2 inches are expected and a Winter Weather Advisory
may eventually be issued.
